The Truth Behind LASIK Satisfaction
Patient satisfaction after LASIK, as measured by unvalidated surveys or
questionnaires, is neither scientific nor a reliable indicator of LASIK
safety or efficacy. LASIK surgeons report high patient satisfaction
even in cases with poor night vision and sight-threatening complications.
Council for Refractive Surgery Quality Assurance (CRSQA)
The article cites a study by Glenn Hagele of the Council for Refractive
Surgery Quality Assurance (CRSQA) and was one of the documents in the
Resource Information Packet I received during my initial Lasik Consulation.
The USAEyes website is operated by the Council for Refractive Surgery
Quality Assurance (CRSQA, pronounced SURS-kah), an independent,
nonprofit, nongovernmental patient/consumer public benefit health
organization created to certify refractive surgeons based upon patient
outcomes.
CRSQA (Council for Refractive Surgical Quality Assurance) is a referral
service for LASIK surgeons, operated by Glenn Hagele out of his home.
Despite its pretentious name, CRSQA is just a cynical marketing ploy
that "certifies" refractive surgeons willing to fork over $7,000 in the
first year and $5,000/year thereafter. In exchange, Glenn Hagele
provides these surgeons with a bogus seal of approval on his
USAEYES.org web site to promote their practices. Don't be fooled by
Glenn Hagele's advertising claims - CRSQA's quality "standards" are
actually below industry standards. Glenn Hagele is not qualified to
issue certifications as he is not a doctor, but simply a high school
graduate with no medical training.
TOP 10 Reasons NOT to have Lasik
If you're considering LASIK, you've probably heard a lot about the
supposed benefits of the surgery. But what about the risks and long-term
consequences? Before you risk your eyesight, read this.
