Everyone,
I had Lasik surgery a year ago, on March 31, 2000. Before surgery, my
prescription was 3.00, my pupil size, 7 mm. Now, one eye is 20/20, the
other is 20/15 (it was 20/10 on first day after my surgery, which they
said was unusual). Sometimes I see haloes around streetlights, and just
as often, everything is very clear & I don't see haloes at all. (My
daughter & husband don't need glasses, and they both see haloes). I
remember a hockey game I went to a week post-lasik -- the stadium lights &
streetlights after were sparkling clear -- and I used to see haloes
before.
I remember having trouble reading newspapers etc. in the first couple of
weeks after surgery, and I was afraid that I would need readers (I'm 45).
However, that's gradually improved, and I can read just fine now (except
for the very fine print on lables etc. -- I do need readers for that).
That's something I considered before surgery, and I decided that it was
better to wear readers than to have to wear glasses all the time, except
when reading!
I was very sensitive to light at first, and I found that I needed to wear
sunglasses last summer. Also, for the first couple of months I needed to
use eye drops 3 or 4 times a day. I thought I'd never be free of eye
drops! However, it's improved gradually, and although I keep a bottle near
my bedside, I rarely need them.
People have asked me if I have reduced night vision, and I don't notice
any. I work in TV, and often in rooms with low-light, and I manage just
fine.
There were some glitches: a few days post-Lasik I saw flashes in the
corner of one eye, and lots of floaters. It seems that the 'jelly' in one
eye shifted when they used the 'suction', and there was a possibility of a
detached retina. However, that passed uneventfully. Also, when the time
came for my 3-month checkup, I was very concerned, because one eye was
noticeably better than the other; I was afraid that I would need
enhancement in the other eye. (I used to cover one eye, then the other,
checking out which was better!). Turns out that the good eye was a strong
20/15, and the other was 20/20. So, although I could see a difference, it
wasn't a bad one.
I started wearing glasses when I was 2 years old -- that's 42 years of
glasses. It seems like a miracle to me now that I can actually see the
clock etc. at night in bed! So, although I know that people here have had
problems with Lasik, I think it's possible to have a good outcome. I
did! and thank you for letting me share my Lasik Anniversary with you.
Cheers, Alexis

My prescription is almost the same as yours and I have the same pupil size. I am considering lasik but I am worried about worsening my night vision. I already have some trouble with halos at night and night time driving.
How are your eyes a decade post-lasik?
Has your vision remained relatively stable?
How about your night vision? Do you still experience halos, glare, and/or starbursts?
